NRL Round 5 - Best Bets and Expert Previews

Here is the summary of all 8 games of Round 5 of the 2024 NRL Premiership Season along with the Best Bet in every game. Click through to read the full preview of each game.

Melbourne Storm vs Brisbane Broncos

Melbourne Storm and Brisbane Broncos renew their intense rivalry on Thursday. While the Broncos' victory in the Preliminary Final last season may have broken Melbourne's winning streak, it's hard to ignore the Storm's dominant record against the Broncos. Ryan Papenhuyzen has scored 6 tries in 3 games against Brisbane in his career.

Aussiebets Best Bet: Ryan Papenhuyzen Anytime Tryscorer $2.35 Betright

Canterbury Bulldogs vs Sydney Roosters

Despite the urge to back the Roosters, the numbers suggest that the Bulldogs could keep the score close. The margin of victory in the past 3 games between these teams has not been more than 6 points which gives us great value with the Bulldogs getting 10.5 now at most books.

Aussiebets Best Bet: Canterbury Bulldogs line 10.5+ $1.95 Betr

Newcastle Knights vs St George Dragons

The defence of the Saints will be put under immense pressure and Newcastle will break through for their biggest score of the season and surpass their team total of 22.5 points. Newcastle have scored 32 points or more in the past 3 victories against the Dragons.

Aussiebets Best Bet: Newcastle Team Total Over 22.5 $1.96 Betr

South Sydney Rabbitohs vs New Zealand Warriors

South Sydney allow the most Run Metres on average to their opposition per game at 1521m whilst New Zealand average 1525 Run Metres per game ranking 2nd in the NRL. This will allow tremendous field position for the Warriors to launch attacking raids on the Souths tryline.

Manly Sea Eagles vs Penrith Panthers

Penrith have dominated Manly in the past, like they have with most teams to be fair, however the Sea Eagles have never had a look in really. Manly are coming off two poor performances, especially in their most recent loss to the Dragons where they looked flat in attack with no creativity behind their structure. Penrith have also not lost to Manly in 8 matches.

The Dolphins vs Wests Tigers

The Dolphins are 5th in the league in average Run Metres with 1477m per game whilst the Tigers concede the 9th most Run Metres in the NRL on average at 1419 m/gm. The Dolphins average the most Linebreaks per game in the league at 6.

North QLD Cowboys vs Gold Coast Titans

It was hard finding decent markets for this match that produced any good value with the Cowboys starting at 16.5-point favourites. Risk will be high in this game but with a strong victory from the Cowboys expected then backing them to win both halves of football is a safe option. The Titans attack has been lacklustre so I also like them under 14.5 points in this match as anything higher would almost double their offensive output for the season.

Aussiebets Best Bet: Titans Team Total Under 14.5 $1.84 Betr

Canberra Raiders vs Parramatta Eels

The models have this game within a couple of points to the Raiders, however, after what we saw last week against the Sharks I can’t say that I have a lot of confidence. The Either Team 1-10 is more likely in my opinion and recent trends between these two clubs also agrees.
