Canterbury Bulldogs vs Sydney Roosters Expert Prediction

The Sydney Roosters will face off against the Bulldogs this Friday, and it's shaping up to be a low-scoring affair.

The Roosters have had a strong start to the season, going 2-2 in their first four games, which is unusual for them since they typically start slow and pick up steam later in the season.

They've had some impressive defensive performances, allowing only 14.8 points per game and 2.5 linebreaks per game, which ranks them 3rd in the league in opposition points and 1st in the NRL in defense.

The Bulldogs are struggling and are expected to be in the running for the spoon again this year. They put up a good fight against the Titans but were unable to maintain their momentum against the Rabbitohs, ultimately losing by a close margin.

The Bulldogs have been able to keep games close against the Roosters in the past, and with the underdog mentality, they might be able to keep this one within the 9-point margin that the computer model predicts.

Despite the urge to back the Roosters, the numbers suggest that the Bulldogs could keep the score close, and the double money offered on the total going under makes it a worthwhile bet.

  • The margin of victory in the past 3 games between these teams has not been more than 6 points
  • All 4 Bulldogs games and 3 of 4 Roosters games this year have gone Under the Total
  • 9 of the 11 tries the Bulldogs have conceded have been down their right side
  • James Tedesco has scored 3 tries in his last two games against the Bulldogs

Head to Head

The Bulldogs and Roosters have had vastly different levels of success in recent seasons, but their matchups have consistently been close and competitive.

Despite the Roosters being heavy favorites in their last six games against the Bulldogs, they have only covered the spread twice, in 2019 and 2020.

The total has gone under in two of the last three games between the teams, and the overall record since 2019 is 3-3.

It's important to consider the recent trends of close games between these teams, rather than simply relying on the Roosters' superior record. The Bulldogs have been able to rise to the occasion and keep games close, even against top-tier opponents like the Roosters.

Canterbury Bulldogs Form Analysis

The Bulldogs have been struggling to find their rhythm on offense, despite having a talented roster.

They put up a good fight against the Titans, but their performance against the Rabbitohs was underwhelming, with 57 tackles in the opposition's 20-meter zone resulting in just three tries, two of which were initiated outside of the red zone.

The Bulldogs have the potential to be a high-scoring team, but their attacking prowess hasn't yet translated into results. It remains to be seen if they can turn things around against a strong Roosters defense.

Sydney Roosters Form Analysis

The Roosters' usually reliable defense was caught off guard by the Panthers last weekend, with Penrith scoring two tries within the first 20 minutes.

Despite this setback, the Roosters' defense regrouped and held strong for the remainder of the game, only allowing four tries.

This performance highlights the resilience of the Roosters' defense this season, as they allowed their opponents to have 66% of territory and 46 tackles inside the 20-meter zone.

While the final score may have appeared close, the Roosters' defense was able to limit the damage and keep the Panthers at bay. This strong defensive performance is a positive sign for the Roosters moving forward.

The Roosters and Bulldogs are vastly different teams, but their upcoming matchup is expected to be a close contest.

Despite the Roosters' strong defense, the Bulldogs have the potential to keep the game within reach, with the help of a 9.5-point head start. The total points scored in the game are expected to go under, making that the best bet.

The Bulldogs' right side defense has been vulnerable, and the Roosters' Tedesco is likely to capitalize on that weakness, as he has done in their previous two matchups.
